What three “gifts” would you give a 20-something if you were a “Forty-Godmother”? 40-something women share three things to help a 20-something get a head start on the confidence to make decisions that are right for themselves. No more woulda, coulda, shoulda.
1. A job is compass. Think about what you enjoy doing and what makes you excited to get up and go to work in the morning. Don’t stop searching when you start working. Keep asking people about their job. There are tons of job you may not even know exist until you talk to other people.
2. There is a time to pretend you know what you are doing. Then there is a time to ask the right person, “How do I do this? I really admire the way you approach work, how do you do xyz?” Fake confidence. Don’t fake performance if it affects the results.
3. You can make a big impact by doing the smallest things and attending to the things your partner thinks are important….even if you don’t think they are important. That’s a relationship.
