Three Wishes for a 20-Something (129)

Every time I interview a 40-something woman for 40:20 Vision I ask them what 3 “gifts” would they give a 20-something if they were a “Forty-Godmother”. Here are one woman’s gifts:

Learn to say no to people. I wish I had learned that earlier. Feeling all the pressure from my family and feeling guilty that I had to everything anyone asked. I was a pleaser.  Now I’ve learned that you have to please yourself first. You won’t lose “love” by learning to say no you will gain respect.

Say yes to more experiences. Travel. Sex (with protection!), moving. No more waiting for Mr. Right or the next promotion. Figure out a way to do the things you dream about. Don’t save on experiences – get out there and do things.

Slow down a little. I was in such a rush to do what everyone else was doing.  To buy what everyone else was buying. Beware the credit card debt!! I wish I had slowed down a little to spend some time thinking about who I wanted to be rather than rushing to be someone else!
