What three “gifts” would you give a 20-something if you were a “Forty-Godmother”? 40-something women share three things to help a 20-something get a head start on the confidence to make decisions that are right for themselves. No more woulda, coulda, shoulda.
1. Potential realized. There is no limitation to what you want to do. It’s really up to you. If you choose to not go anywhere with a passion that’s your choice, but the potential is there. It may take time. It may take money. You may have to get more education. But it also could be the greatest thing you have ever done.
2. Belief in yourself. When you have a job you think you are not ready for yet, use it as motivation to work harder. If you are sitting at that table you have to work harder to earn respect. You have to want to be excellent. You have to believe in yourself. That is huge. You have to believe that failure is not an option.
3. Questions. Educate yourself and ask questions. I educated myself. I wasn’t afraid to ask questions. I wasn’t afraid to sit down with the president and say, “How am I doing? Give me an evaluation. What do I need to do? I want to learn from you”.
