Every time I interview a 40-something woman for 40:20 Vision I ask them what three “gifts” would they give a 20-something if they were a “Forty-Godmother”. In essence, three things to help you get a head start on perspective and gain the confidence you need to make decisions that are right for you. No more woulda, coulda, shoulda.

 1.   It’s a small world. Don’t burn any bridges. Learn what you can learn from any job and figure out a way to leave a job on good terms. Even if    you’re frustrated at the end, you probably learned a lot along the way and there’ some goodness there.

2.   Not everything you do in your twenties has to have gravity. You’re twenty. Go ahead. There’s a whole lot of future ahead of you. Don’t take yourselves too seriously.

3.   My #1 piece of advice for anyone at age twenty or any age is just to be nice. You can’t control if someone is prettier or skinnier or is more successful or has a better job or a better car, but you know what? You can control what people remember about you if you’re nice. It’s true.Think about the people that you care about. Most likely it’s the people that are real.
