3 Gifts for a 20-Something

shutterstock_255404074What three “gifts” would you give a 20-something if you were a “Forty-Godmother”?  40-something women share three things to help a 20-something get a head start on the confidence to make decisions that are right for themselves. No more woulda, coulda, shoulda.

1. Don’t let anyone take your self-worth.

2.  Don’t settle. Make sure you have the right recipe. The right relationship is about the right combination. You just can’t make a cake rise no matter how much effort you put in it if you don’t give it any leavening or any baking soda and baking powder. You can love it to death, you can coddle it, but it’s not going to work because you don’t have the right ingredients. And I think relationships are the same way. It’s not going to work if you don’t have the right people. In my twenties, I thought he is going to change. I’m doing a good thing and in time hopefully he will appreciate it. But he didn’t That is the thing. When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

3.  Learn to save but invest in yourself too. Get an education. Get a loan. Go to do something. You have the rest of your life to pay back that $10,000. You can go into business because you can afford not to succeed in business. Some businesses are so risky but if that’s your passion, your love, do it. You can afford to fail at it in your twenties in ways that you can’t always afford to do in your forties and fifties.
