Karma isn’t a platitude. Being a “mean girl” only makes you feel bad overtime. Only looking out for yourself doesn’t pay off in the long run. You will get so much more done in life by leading with warmth and respect and considering what it is like to be in someone else’s shoes. Especially as women, it’s by supporting each other that we will make our work life better. I know you may not feel the effects of a workplace that was built for men quite yet. Or you may have created your own workaround. But it is still there. If all of the youngest generation holds hands to fight for family leave and gender friendly policies at work, maybe we can see real change and the next generation won’t feel it at all.
You will experience so many highs and lows in life. What seems unsurmountable at one point in your life will just feel like an “I got this” moment later on. This is why we can keep living and loving and having children and taking chances. That is life. It’s one big learning curve. Take in the highs and the lows. Make big decisions in the middle.
If life gives you a chance to do something you are afraid of, take it. You may sacrifice a little comfort, but you will build your confidence and perspective.
Three Gifts for a 20-Something: What three “gifts” would you give a 20-something if you were a “Forty-Godmother”? Here 40-somethings share three wishes to help a 20-something get a head start on the confidence to make decisions that are right for them (not their parents, friends, teachers or society). No more woulda, coulda, shoulda.
