Asking for a raise is just a conversation. When I was younger the idea of asking for more was stressful. Even just that word was really very hard for me. To ask more money or more responsibility to get to more money. A series of questions would run through my head: “Do I deserve it? Sorry for asking. Is it okay for me to ask? Am I being annoying? Are you angry at me?”
But now I think about it, I have never been annoyed or angry at someone who is prepared and comes to me to ask for more. The best way to approach it is to be prepared. And don’t say you that you think you can handle more responsibility. If you think you can handle it, you know you can handle it. Don’t ask or permission to handle it. You say, “I can do this. Done.” It’s important for them to know that you’re fully on board. And if you ask a company for more responsibility and they don’t give it you, you may want to work somewhere else.
