Every time I interview a 40-something woman for 40:20 Vision I ask them what 3 “gifts” would they give a 20-something if they were a “Forty-Godmother”. Here are one woman’s gifts:
1.
Your solid ground. You have to stand your ground on certain things. “Be true to yourself” is such a corny line but I think it’s a good one because it is so important. Please yourself. You don’t have to please everyone but you have to be nice to people.
2.
In your twenties, it’s really hard to take criticism. You want to be right about everything. To be honest, we still want to be right, but I think that I have started to listen to criticism more and be more thoughtful. Self reflection is important. You have to pick and choose what you want to listen to. When someone is criticizing you about little things that aren’t important, that is actually the bigger red flag. When they criticize you about important things, that’s constructive.
3.
A good friend to drive cross-country with you. I think that is an amazing experience that is good for you in your twenties. If you can do it…be safe…but do it.
