3 Gifts for a 20-Something

Three Gifts for a 20-Something  By Sara Goldfarb, 40:20 Vision Ambassador

What three “gifts” would you give a 20-something if you were a “Forty-Godmother”? Here 40-somethings share three things to help a 20-something get a head start on the confidence to make decisions that are right for themselves. No more woulda, coulda, shoulda.

The understanding that it’s okay to accept or ask for help. This took a while to sink in for me because I grew up ferociously independent. However, when I had my twins, I realized I couldn’t do it all by myself. Friends and family offered their help, and I took it without hesitation. I realized then that people don’t offer to help unless they mean it, and if they don’t mean it, then that’s their problem.

The ability to always take care of yourself financially. Life doesn’t always turn out the way you planned.  Real stability comes from knowing that you can always depend on yourself to make a living.

A regular exercise routine. I know through research and my own experience with clients that exercise is the best antidote to depression, anxiety, and stress. It’s a natural mood elevator and when you feel better you live better. So find an exercise routine that you love, whether it’s a group fitness class or a solitary run and start the habit early.
