What You Have Is Better Than You Think

Some great advice from a 40-something …for 2012 spend more time thinking about what you do have than what you don’t have.

“My 20s…it was all about what I didn’t have, what I could have, what I needed to have. And now it is more about ‘wow, I’m so lucky’ and feeling constantly grateful for what I do have. I do think the gratitude piece is a really important aspect of what I have learned since my twenties.

There is so much striving. The world can be a competitive place so there is always someone who doing more, who is prettier, thinner, smarter, wealthier and it’s very easy to get caught in this. But there is also someone who is not as smart, not as attractive, not as wealthy.

If a 20 year old could actually believe in their strengths and what they have. In mu 20s I took everything so seriously. Now at 40 I take things more lightly. If you don’t take things so seriously…if you understand that things can be important without being serious, then you don’t have to take yourself so seriously. Then it’s easier to not compare. Then it’s easier to live your absolute best life.”
