Herewith, three “gifts” one 40-something would give a 20-something as their “Forty-Godmother”. What are yours?
1.
You don’t have to go through life A.B.C.D. It can be B.C.A.D. And there’s some letters you never even heard about that are incredible. It’s off the charts. It turns out that more and more great things unfold. You may lose something along the way but it doesn’t mean you can’t live happy.
2.
Always be thinking about how you’re going to take care of yourself. That doesn’t mean you have to be a soloist—or that nobody can take care of you. But it is knowing how you can and keeping that alive. Be proud of being able to take care of yourself — no one can ever take that away from you.
3.
Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Now I feel like what’s interesting about me is what’s different about me. Not because I’m trying to be different on purpose but because it’s about my viewpoint and my vulnerabilities. I think that is where I have made real connection in my relationship and in my career.
