Every time I interview a 40-something woman for 40:20 Vision I ask them what 3 “gifts” would they give a 20-something if they were a “Forty-Godmother”. Here’s one woman’s gifts:
1.
A pause button so you can stop and make sure you aren’t moving into marriage or the next step of a relationship just because it’s the expected progression. Avoid that ‘we lived together now we have to get married because I’ve lived with him for a certain amount of time’ kind of thinking. Stop and think if that is what you really want.
2.
A fast forward button to stop procrastinating when it comes to doing something for yourself. I allowed myself to push off doing things for myself for the sake of doing things for others. I always found some excuse to delay decisions for myself. That’s definitely changing since I’ve been in my forties.
3.
A reverse magnifying glass so you can see that the one flaw that you see is not what the world sees.
