Three Gifts for A 20-Something (105)

March 3rd, 2013

Herewith, three “gifts” one 40-something would give a 20-something as their “Forty-Godmother”. What are yours?

1.

The ability to teach people how to treat you. It’s how you treat yourself.  You have to value and honor yourself or no one else is going do it.

2.

Time and space to grow. I think you know yourself at twenty but you still need to give yourself the space to grow and change.

3.

Focus on the solution. I think that’s one thing that happens with maturity. You start focusing on the silver lining and the solution and not on the problem and circumstances. As tough as things can get, you wake up and you’re like “new day, same s*** but today I can do this!” This is the little thing that I can do to make a difference today and that is where I’m going to focus.

Oh, I love this – especially #1. You really do teach other people how to treat you, and it all starts with how you treat yourself. I used to treat everyone else much better than I treated myself. I ended up popping out of my pants, tired, and stressed. Only when I changed my thinking and took action did I start to get the respect I deserved – from MYSELF! That is the respect that we truly need.

That is beautiful….it’s a hard lesson to learn but how amazing if you could start with respect for yourself. Thank you Tammy for you endless wisdom!
