Three Gifts for a 20-Something (97)

January 6th, 2013

Herewith, three “gifts” one 40-something would give a 20-something as their “Forty-Godmother”. What are yours?

1.

You’ve  got to be able to sleep well at night. That means you have to feel good about yourself.  One  way I do that is by showering people with kindness. Especially your enemies or people who aren’t kind to you. That is on thing my dad told me, always shower your enemies with kindness.

2.

A diverse circle of friends. Different types make the whole better. So rather than gossip about people who are different, celebrate their eccentricity!

3.

When you are socializing or networking, try to make time to talk to the oldest people in the room. Find out their story and learn. They probably have a lot to offer. Ever since I was a kid, I talked to my parents friends rather than only hanging out with the people my age. I learned so much from those conversations.

    I really like those suggestions!

Three of my own 40something gifts to 20somethings:
    1) Take care of your body with daily exercise and healthy eating – taking care of your body is taking care of your brain
    2) Stop trying to please others – be kind, but do not spend years not taking action just because someone in your life might not like it
    3) Be a good listener – instead of just thinking about what you will say next, listen to the other person with an open mind

You are always a work-in-progress, and will never “get there” – change and growth are good things!
