3 Gifts for a 20-Something

What three “gifts” would you give a 20-something if you were a “Forty-Godmother”?  40-something women share three things to help a 20-something get a head start on the confidence to make decisions that are right for themselves. No more woulda, coulda, shoulda.

1. Be open to people — especially the “nice guy”. I wish I had been more open to different types of people …and taken the time to get to know the guy who was genuinely interested in me but who I dismissed as not exciting enough. I wish instead of saying no I had said maybe and gotten to know not only who he was, but who he could become.

2. A more holistic vision. The sooner you realize that the way you see the world is a small fraction of the way other people see the world… the better. To be a better manager, friend, or partner, you have to consider that when someone sees something differently than you do, it is not wrong…and seeing from their eyes could open up new solutions.

3. You can’t please everyone. Doing the best you can is the best thing you can do — for yourself and others. Move forward. Constantly doubting your actions doesn’t help anyone.
